Character Specific Rules

- I’ve written Tatum on and off since 2011 on various sites. My version of Tatum is heavily headcanon based, although I’m working on revamping her backstory to flow better since it’s been a couple of years since I’ve been able to seriously write her and I’ve lost what I’ve originally written for her backstory.

- I’m open to original family members! However, I’d like to discuss things before interacting in character to make sure that we’re both on the same page as far as history and such goes.

- I’m a firm believer that Billy was the one behind the mask in the garage. With Stu being the party host, it’d be incredibly hard for him to slip away long enough to kill Tatum. This is the assumption that I’m going with when writing that part of the bio and writing headcanons about that night.

- I choose not to use Rose McGowan for Tatum due to past transphobic comments that she’s made, plus the fact that she has previously defended convicted and well known p*dophile Victor Salva. The only time her image is used is either in faceless shots for aesthetic purposes or on pinterest in group shots. This is not open for discussion.

Biography

I’m slowly working on rewriting and revamping Tatum’s original bio. Enjoy the bullet points for now!

* - Tatum was an attempt at a “fix it” baby to Joan and Michael Riley in an attempt to heal a very quickly failing marriage. For three years, they fooled themselves into thinking that it was working. She was a very bright and happy child, always having a smile for everyone she meets.

* - Around Tatum’s third birthday, Joan and Michael began fighting with each other pretty badly again. Dewey protected Tatum by taking his little sister outside or distracting her by taking her to his room and watching a movie with her.

* - Around this time, Tatum met and became friends with Sidney Prescott. Despite the differences in personality, the two became inseparable almost instantly. The girls began to refer to each other as ‘sisters,’ something that Maureen and Joan thought were adorable.

* - When she was five, Joan had finally had enough and threw Michael out of the house. That was the last time that they saw or heard from him. Apparently, he was tired of being a ‘family man.’

* - Sidney was there for Tatum and the two of them became closer than ever. Dewey became even more protective of his little sister, despite the differences in ages. She loved them both and felt lucky to have her best friend and her older brother in her life.

* - As the years passed, Tatum and Sidney remained as close as ever even as Dewey and Tatum grew apart due to age. Tatum remembered how Sidney stayed by her side when her dad left, so remained loyal to Sidney even when their general interests differed.

* - When she was thirteen, the Rileys got the news that Michael had been killed in a car crash. It felt weird to grieve him and Tatum was torn between sadness and anger. This was just one more thing that Sidney helped her through.

* - Around fifteen was when Tatum began hearing rumors of Maureen sleeping around. Ever the loyal friend, she became extremely determined to keep Sidney from hearing these rumors. She would change the subject when it was brought up and silence people when they tried to bring it up around Sidney.

* - At around sixteen, Billy Loomis came into their orbit and Sidney developed a crush. Tatum wasn’t too big of a fan of his but it was cute to see Sidney slowly start to get out of her comfort zone, so she gently encouraged her to approach Loomis.

* - The group slowly began to form with Sidney and Billy dating, Tatum coming in because she was Sidney’s best friend, Billy bringing in his best friend Stu, and Randy coming in because he was Sidney’s other friend.

* - At around seventeen, tragedy suddenly struck when Cotton Weary brutally murdered Sidney’s mom Maureen. Sidney was the one who discovered the body and was utterly horrified at the sight. Tatum practically flew to Sidney’s side that night and refused to leave her, even when Neil came back into town.

* - For a while there, Sidney basically lived with the Rileys while the investigation happened and the Prescott home was a crime scene. Tatum was as loyal and as protective as ever, making sure to keep constantly by Sidney’s side and protect her from the vulture reporters ( developing a special hatred for Gale Weathers ).

* - Eventually, things die down as Cotton Weary is arrested and things move forward with his trial. Sidney moves back home with her dad and they all slowly begin to piece their lives back together the best that they can.

* - Stu surprises Tatum by ( claiming ) that he dumped his long time on and off girlfriend Casey Becker in order to date her. She’s a little wary at first, but delighted. Despite her mom and Dewey’s dislike of Stu, the two of them end up having a pretty decent relationship.

* - The events of Scream kick off.

* - The events of the garage happen as we see in the film except for the pet door incident. Tatum, in her desperation, tries to crawl through the pet door and briefly gets stuck. For a horrifying moment, it looks as if she’s going to get her head crushed. However, the safety mechanism manages to kick in and Tatum wiggles free and falls. She breaks her ankle in the fall and tries to desperately limp away. The masked figure catches her and stabs her several times, leaving her for dead on the lawn.

* - Tatum manages to somehow find a way to staunch the bleeding and drags herself to a place where she’s not easily found. She briefly passes out and when she wakes up, she’s in the hospital.

* - She takes a while to recover and, although she still loves and adores Sidney, she decides that they need to part ways for a little while. The summer after graduation, she goes to New York to stay with her aunt and recover mentally for a bit.

* - While there, she winds up doing some light modeling work for a little bit of pocket money and it ends up becoming a thing. From there, she ends up stumbling into an acting gig that spirals into more.

* - During the events of Scream 2, Tatum was out of the country and no one told her anything until it was already over. She flew home immediately and both Sidney and Dewey caught absolute hell for keeping her in the dark.

* - Tatum tried to keep up with Sidney, but between her work as an actress and her own struggles with her mental health, it was hard and the two of them grew apart. It only grew worse when Sidney went into hiding.

* - She gave Dewey a piece of her mind when he decided to work on the set of Stab 3. She didn’t care why he was doing it, only that she felt betrayed that he was doing it in the first place. She felt those movies were trashy and untruthful and the fact that they wanted to keep making them disgusted her.

* - She flew to LA the day after Cotton Weary’s murder with the intention of joining Dewey and Gale, but was attacked and nearly killed by Ghostface. She barely survived her attack, but was convinced by Kincaid to temporarily falsify her death until the killer was caught. The only person who knew she was alive was Dewey ( and Sidney once she appeared ).

* - After Roman was killed, Sidney and Tatum worked on repairing their broken friendship and became closer than ever.

* - Tatum happily encouraged Sidney to write her own book when she was ready and get her own story out there.

* - When the events of Scream 4 happened, she was once more out of the country filming what would turn out to be her last film. She got into Woodsboro less than an hour after the hospital showdown and refused to leave Sidney’s side.

* - After finding out that Gale was writing yet another book, she got so angry that she decided to start her own podcast. She wanted to get the real details out there before Gale twisted and sensationalized them like she always did.

* - The first “season” of her podcast focused on the original set of Woodsboro Murders and interviewed herself, Sidney, Dewey, and family members of various victims ( such as Casey Becker’s parents and family members of Steven Orth ) who had never spoken out before. The second “season” focused on the more recent Woodsboro Murders. They were both incredibly successful and Tatum began to branch out, focusing on other stories and humanizing the victims of crimes.

* - Over the years, she became known in true crime circles as someone who deeply respects the truth of the story and who put the voice of the victims first and foremost. Tatum also showed a deep respect to the victims’ family and friends, listening to them in a way that the majority of true crime reporters didn’t. She also began exposing the poor research, biased views, and blatant disrespect that others in the field would give the stories and families.

* - During the events of Scream 5, she was in Canada on her own book tour. Dewey let her know what was going on in Woodsboro and when she asked if she should fly into town, he told her not to. However, the second she learned of his death, she flew in anyway.

* - Her flight was delayed and she wasn’t able to make it into Woodsboro until right after the final confrontation. She met Gale and Sidney at the hospital and wound up collapsing into Sidney’s arms, crying her eyes out over Dewey’s death.

* - In the aftermath of the “Requel Murders,” she warned the Core Four about what Gale would do with her book and offered them a chance to tell their story on her podcast. When they turned her down, she didn’t push it. However, she let them know that she would always have a spot for them when they were ready.

* - She was with Sidney when the events of Scream 6 happened and, at Sidney’s request, went into hiding with her, Mark, and the kiddos.

* - More to come!
