- Lilahās mother, Lucy, was a prostitute in Kirkwall and an apostate. Her family came from a long line of mages and they learned how to hide it very well early on. They often spoke about leaving Kirkwall, but were never able to get enough money to safely travel anywhere else. Lucy and Cullen met when, shortly after his arrival in Kirkwall, his fellow Templars pushed him into going to The Blooming Rose for a little āstress relief.ā- This was a thing that happened a couple of times over the span of a couple of years before Lucy realized that she was pregnant. She took a break from the profession once she started showing to have her child, often wondering which of her clients the father was. When Lilah was born, her curly blonde hair and light golden eyes confirmed to Lucy that Cullen was the father.
- She kept the identity of Lilahās father a secret, worried that the family might be in danger from the Templars if they knew that Lilah was a child of one of their own. She and her own mother, Greta, raised Lilah the best that they could. Knowing that she had a high potential of being a mage, they taught her how to mask and how to keep a secret from the moment that she was able to talk.
- Despite being poor, Lilah was an extremely happy, energetic, and bright child. She loved to learn new things and picked a lot of things up with relative ease. She also had a love of nature and flowers, dandelions in particular.
- It was shortly after Lilahās fourth birthday when her entire world was ripped out from under her. Anders blew up the Chantry, sending the entire city of Kirkwall into a spiral of terror and anger. Lilah and her family were close enough to the Chantry to get caught up in a wave of debris that rained down.
- Lilah was trapped in the home of a family friend, surrounded by the corpses of the friend and her grandmother. It took her mother, who was severely injured, a little longer to die. Lilah held her motherās hand while she took her last breaths, laying down and curling up against her the best that she could after sheād passed.
- She had no idea how long she was trapped in the rubble, hiding her face and head from all of the scary sounds of battle and anguish outside. She cried herself to sleep, stomach hurting from hunger and throat hurting from dehydration.
- Lilah was found the next morning when a group of templars and city guard, led by Cullen, was combing through the rubble and looking for survivors. Their shouts woke her up and she forced herself to sit up and cry out in return. They dug her out of the rubble and Cullen was the one who carried her to safety.
- She was scared and alone and begged Cullen to stay with her. He was big and strong and had been the first person that sheād seen when the group had come. He told her that he couldnāt stay long, but did manage to calm her down during the time that he was there. After sheād calmed, he promised her that he would be back to spend time with her later that night.
- Cullen kept his promise and showed up some hours later while they were eating. He sat beside her with his own food, kept her company, and asked questions about her family. It was around this time that he had a feeling that it was possible that she was his and it was confirmed when she told him who her mother was and what she used to do. Lilah looked like a combination of his oldest sister and his mother with her golden hair and eyes, both of which were the same shade of his motherās.
- He told her that he believed that he was her father and promised to protect her the best that he could. As such, knowing that Kirkwall would not be a safe place for her and especially if anyone found out that she was his daughter, he sent her to live with his family. Lilah didnāt like this and tried to argue and cry, but Cullen gently put his foot down and promised that she would be safe with them.
- After her arrival with the Rutherfords, she went to live with her aunt Mia. It took her a little while to be able to open up and warm up to her new family, but everyone was incredibly patient and caring towards her. No one forced her into uncomfortable situations or forced her to call them any titles or names that she didnāt want to. Eventually, she warmed up to them and began making strides towards the inquisitive and energetic that sheād been before her familyās deaths.
- After the Inquisition settled in Skyhold, Lilah was allowed to go visit Cullen. It was supposed to be a short visit, but it soon turned into something a bit more permanent when she began displaying signs of magic.
- Her initial reaction was to hide her talent out of fear, but one of the older mages realized what she was doing and gently encouraged her to tell her father. When he was told, Cullen became worried for her given the state of the Templar and Mages. However, after working with several of the senior mages, they managed to set up a schooling system for Lilah. - She soon settled into a comfortable routine at Skyhold, one that was filled with learning and practice for most of the day, then getting to spend time outside and playing in nature for another part of it. Lilah began making flower crowns for everyone, often handing them out to her favorite people. Some members of the Inquisition jokingly referred to it as a ābadge of honorā to get one of the ālittle lion cubāsā flower crowns.
- When things began to grow more serious and they got closer and closer to the final showdown with Corypheus, Lilah was once more sent to live with her family. One of the mages went with Lilah to help her keep up with her studies and to make sure that she didnāt get tempted by a demon.
- After the final battle, Lilah was given the option to once more return to Skyhold and live with the Inquisition and her father. She eagerly accepted as she loved Skyhold, her father, and the various members of the Inquisition. Plus, she wanted to get back to her proper mage studies.
