The Healer.
a study in: true kindness, an unbreakable spirit, bravery in the face of unending fear, trying to find comfort in the cold, putting the wellbeing of others ahead of yours, helping those who need it, showing kindness to those who doesn't necessarily deserve it, being kind doesn't mean that you're weak, truly wanting to help.

TRIGGER WARNING:

living in constant fear, enduring abuse, shielding younger ones from abuse, implications of ptsd.

Character Specific Rules:

1. Kind but not a pushover - Despite what she's gone through, Josette has overall remained kind. However, her kindness does not equal weakness. If your character pushes too hard, she will eventually bite back. Please keep this in mind.

2. Cullen Writers - I'd love to write a good plot with a Cullen writer. However, due to the amount of trauma that Josette has around Cullen and the position that he holds in her story, I will not accept any random memes or starters from Cullen writers unless we've discussed things beforehand. I don't want to put anyone in any uncomfortable positions and I want to make sure that we're all on the same page before we move forward.

Stats & Abilities:

Full Name: Josette Abigail Seabrooke
Nicknames / Titles: Josie ( close friends ) // Jo ( close friends ) // Head Healer ( inquisition )
Age Range Played: Late teens to late twenties ( or thirties, depending )
Species: Human Mage
Height: 5ā€™2
Notable Features: Freckles across her nose, incredibly bright blue eyes, bone white and slightly raised scar along her right cheekbone due to Cullenā€™s gauntlet when he backhanded her in Kirkwall.
Family: Elizabeth Seabrooke ( mother ; living ; estranged ) // Petre Seabrooke ( father ; living ; estranged )
Views on the Circle: She has mixed views on the Circle. While she believes that the structure of the lessons and the way that they were provided a place of safety was wonderful, she also believes that the lack of ability to come and go and the way that they were never allowed to see family ( unless from a rich / noble family ) harmed more than it helped. She believes that if some form of the Circle returns, they need to have more freedoms and not rip children forcibly from their parents. She also believes that the Templars should have a better checks and balances system to help prevent the abuses that happened in Kirkwall from happening again.

Biography:

- Josette was born in a small village in the Free Marches to a very religiously devout couple. The initial plan for her was for her to be promised to either the Chantry or the Templar Order by the age of twelve, depending on how talented she proved herself to be with the sword.

- Fate had different plans for Josette, however. At eight years old, she began showing signs of having magic. Her parents promptly sent her to the Circle, seemingly disappointed that their only child had magic.

- Life in the Ostwick Circle was incredibly peaceful and she was nurtured in the exploration of both her talents and any scholarly pursuits that she wished. Under their tutelage, she proved herself to be an incredibly talented and friendly mage. She hated the thought of using her abilities to harm people, rather leaning towards the desire to help and heal with her powers.

- Even at a young age, Josette was held in high regard by both her fellow mages and their Templars. She would often take newly arrived mages under her wing, calming them, showing them around the Circle, and introducing them to people. She came to be looked at as a motherly figure and someone who would do everything that she could [ within the rules ] to help them out.

- She was eighteen [ the youngest age allowed ] when she went through her Harrowing. Due to her passive nature, a few people worried that she wouldnā€™t make it through. However, she surprised those doubters by passing her Harrowing with flying colors. A few days afterwards, she was offered a teaching assistant position at the Circle and she happily accepted.

At the age of twenty two, Josette was told that she was being transferred to the Kirkwall Circle because they were in desperate need of both teachers and healers. She was horrified because sheā€™d heard stories and rumors about the Kirkwall Circle, so she tried to get out of it with no success.

- She tried to look on the bright side and give the Kirkwall Circle a chance, hoping that the stories were exaggerated. Unfortunately for her, she found that the stories were not nearly as bad as the actual truth of the matter.

- For the first two years, Josette managed to keep her head down and avoid trouble with Meredith, Cullen, and the other Templars. Due to being the strongest healer in the Circle, she was often pulled away from her classes and studies to help the Templars out when needed.

- Things changed shortly after her twenty fourth birthday when she somehow managed to get on Meredithā€™s bad side. She still wasnā€™t sure what she did, but she was woken in the middle of the night and forcibly dragged out of her bed by the Templars. She cried and begged them to tell her what was going on and what sheā€™d done wrong, but they refused to answer her. Due to her struggling so much, Cullen backhanded her. His a piece of his gauntlet cut deeply into her skin and would wind up leaving a bone white scar along her right cheekbone.

- She spent hours being interrogated and beaten by the Templars, a good portion of that abuse being carried out under Meredithā€™s gaze. After they realized that they could get nothing out of her, they dumped her into the dungeon to await Meredithā€™s orders.

- Thankfully, the fact that she was such a strong healer was what saved her. She was put back into the Circle with the strict orders to ā€œbehaveā€ or else she would regret it.

- While she recovered physically, mentally was a different story. She would flinch every time someone came near her, she no longer smiled, she no longer spoke unless she absolutely needed to, and she would shrink down / flinch every time a Templar became too close.

- She lived the next two years in the Kirkwall circle in complete and utter fear of the Templars, even visibly shaking every time she saw Meredith and / or Cullen. When the Chantry exploded and everyone rebelled, Josette saw her chance to run. She joined a small group of mages who hid the best that she could and ran to leave Kirkwall when given the chance.

- She doesnā€™t remember much of how they escaped or their first week on the run, but eventually they fell into a rhythm of running and hiding. Josette rarely fought, even going out of her way to avoid spending long periods of time with groups of mages who just wanted to fight and be angry.

- Josette was invited to the Conclave at the Temple of Sacred Ashes, but the thought of being around so many Templars absolutely frightened her. She refused, but was hoping that the talks would broker at least a foundation for peace. As such, she chose to stay with a small group that were staying close to Haven in hopes that they would find out good news sooner rather than later.

- When the Conclave exploded and the sky was ripped open, the group that Josette was with fled out of fear that the Templars were going to get them somehow. She knew that the mages would be blamed for it and was terrified that the reprisals would be even worse than before.

- They found a place to hole up close to Redcliffe until they began hearing rumors of the Inquisition. Eventually, Josette decided to go to Haven and join the organization because sheā€™d heard that they desperately needed healers and she missed being able to heal people.

- She arrived two weeks before the attack on Haven and the forced march to Skyhold. Upon seeing Cullen, Josette almost dropped everything and fled. However, she was convinced by a couple of the other mages that sheā€™d known from Kirkwall to stay despite his presence. She was needed and it wasnā€™t fair to herself or to others to allow her terror of Cullen [ and other Templars / former Templars ] to keep her from doing so.

- Josette absolutely fell in love with Skyhold, even if it was in Orlais. She loved the freedom and safety that it afforded, the fact that it was easy to move around in and hide [ if needed ], the fact that the Inquisitor and others brought in more than enough supplies, and the fact that there was an entire wing of one of the buildings dedicated to healing.

- Due to her talents, Josette was given the title of Head Healer. This meant that she could personally make sure that all of the healers under her were well stocked, well trained, and ready to help at a momentā€™s notice. She was also given her own bedroom, office, and certain freedoms and privileges that other mages werenā€™t, which was great. The bad part was that she was right next to the soldiersā€™ barracks and training grounds with Cullenā€™s office being a stoneā€™s throw away from herā€™s. It made avoiding him / pretending he didnā€™t exist almost impossible.

- During the final battle with Corypheus, Josette was on the battlefield with a squadron of healers and medics that she personally trained. Being in battle was rough, trying to run and take care of everyone who was injured / fell. It was even rougher to listen to the cries of the dying when she couldnā€™t get to them fast enough. Her left leg was also badly injured towards the end of the battle, but she slapped some salve and a bandage on it and kept moving.

- Josette stayed with the Inquisition until it was dissolved and left with extremely great recommendations. She wound up working with the Chantry as a Healer, going wherever she was needed most. Her battle injury left her with a small limp that she would have for the rest of her life.
